• The Center is now open.  Check out our daily lunch menus and our activities.  Masks are now required for everyone coming into the Thurmont Senior Center until further notice due to the rise in Delta variant cases in Frederick County.  Zumba Gold classes on Fridays and Exercise with Alice on Tuesdays have been postponed until further notice while everyone is masked.  We thank you for your patience. Tell you senior friends.

WE REOPEN MONDAY, AUG. 2nd WELCOME BACK FRIENDS!  We have a special week planned to celebrate your return and some free drawings during the week.  It is so good to welcome all our friends back to the Thurmont Senior Center August 2 with a Welcome Back free performance by Forever Young (Kip & Dale Young) at 1:15.  If you want to come for lunch at 12:00, call the center by Friday July 30 to order a Mountaingate Lunch for $6.00.  On Tues. Aug. 3 we are having a “Meet, Greet and Eat” and at 12:00 we will serve a free picnic type lunch of hot dogs, baked beans, coleslaw, (from the Thurmont Kountry Kitchen) chips, tea/coffee, & dessert, but please make a reservation by Aug. 2 so we know how many lunches we need. We can all catch up with each other after such a long time.  On Wednesday, Aug. 4, is our “Welcome Back” Bingo at 1:00, finally we can yell BINGO at the Sr. Center! If you want lunch, please call by Aug. 3 to order.  On Thursday, Aug. 5 at 1:00, we are having a free ice cream social and peaches, again call by Aug. 4 to order so I know how many.  On Friday Aug. 6 from 1:15 to 2:00 we are closing out the week with a free performance by Patty & Brent, an acoustic duo and cards & games to follow.  It’s been so long since we were open; don’t forget to let me know by the day before, when you want lunch, by calling 301-271-7911.

For all the Zumba Gold participants, Kellie is still teaching, but we have to move the class to Friday mornings 10:15 to 11:00.  Everything else is the same.

For the Alice Eyler’s Tues. exercise class at 9:30, there won’t be a class on Aug. 3, but it will start Aug. 10.

For all the other events, please see the Calendar of Events in the back of this issue, TV Channel 99, the local Thurmont radio station, the sign out front or by calling the center at 301-271-7911. You can check the schedule & menu on our website thurmontseniorcenter.org, or stop by for a copy.

Concerning COVID we don’t have many restrictions, but here’s what you need to know.  We want you to do whatever makes you feel safe and comfortable.  If you want to wear a mask, please do.  If you haven’t been vaccinated please think of others and yourself and wear a mask. If you are not feeling well, please stay home, so as not to make others sick.  Also we will be asking the kitchen volunteers to please wear a mask while they are handling food and also the volunteers who deliver food to seniors.

Two big changes to our Roy Rogers fundraiser you can now order inside or drive thru and mention the Thurmont Senior Center AND THE BAKE SALE IS BACK.  There will be no preorders though, it will be first come first served.  The time is 5-8p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 12 (always the 2nd Thursday of the month).

The Christmas Raffle is set up at the senior center so you can take a look when you come in and tickets are available until Dec. 4 when the winners will be drawn. They are 6 for $5.00 or $1.00 ea.

We look forward to seeing everyone.  If you do not have a way to the center, call me at 301-271-7911 and I can have a volunteer pick you up.
