April News

This month we have our, exercise classes, Dominoes, Pinochle, Poker, 500, Bunko and Farkle games, special music, coffee, treats and of course Bingo games.  Make sure to pick up a calendar because there is always something fun happening here at the Thurmont Senior Center. Don’t forget it is free to join the center. If by chance you have extra bottled water or soda in cans that you would like to donate to the center, we could really use them for BINGO.

We would love for you to join us for Yoga on Monday’s and Zumba on Friday’s they are $5.00 a class or 8 classes for $24.00 We also offer a free balance and strength exercise session daily, Monday-Thursday beginning at 11:00-11:45. You can come once a week or every day.  We have Bunko on the 2nd Thursday of the month at 1:00 and Farkle on the 4th Thursday at 1:00. Thursday’s at 12:30 we are playing dominoes We also play Bingo every 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month, if we have a 5th Wednesday, we have a special Bingo. It is always a fun time full of laughter and special homemade treats for halftime. We have also just started a new discussion group on healthy eating, living and overcoming special health diet restrictions.  This group is designed to be a support system for those looking for ideas on how to manage diet restrictions and diet special needs for example (anti- inflammatory diet, salt restrictions) This group is a safe space to talk about health and diet without judgement.  I encourage all to come and join in the discussion.  I think you will find some great people with great ideas to share, even some recipes and alternatives options. The group is meeting Tuesday’s at 10 am. Of course, we can’t forget to mention our coffee time on Tuesday’s at 10:00 am. Friday’s we have Poker and are starting the game of 500.  You do not have to know how to play 500, they will teach you.

YOGA announcement, the attendance has been steadily dropping off so unfortunately if the numbers do not increase we will have to discontinue the class.  We are continuing now through April but if there is not a significant increase we will not be able to continue the class. So if you have been wanting to come make sure you start.  You will enjoy it and you body will say thank you.

Ruth’s Rowdies would like to say a special thank you to Karl Schaper for building the rack for the resistance band that they use daily in their class.

Remember we have delicious lunches served every day at 12:00, the meals are $6.00 each. We would love to share a meal with you.  Please call the day before to sign up for lunch.  Menus are at the center and online on Facebook and our website thurmontseniorcenter.org. You are always among friends when you come in so if you are feeling lonely come in and make new friends.

The Thurmont Senior Center is available to rent for different activities as well. Like perhaps a baby shower, a birthday party or a bridal shower. If you would like to share any pictures you have of events held at the Senior Center, I would love to share them with others.

As always if you have questions don’t hesitate to call us at 301-271-7911.

**Some activities may have a minimal cost but to join the center is absolutely free.
