• The Center is now open.  Check out our daily lunch menus and our activities.  Masks are now required for everyone coming into the Thurmont Senior Center until further notice due to the rise in Delta variant cases in Frederick County.  Zumba Gold classes on Fridays and Exercise with Alice on Tuesdays have been postponed until further notice while everyone is masked.  We thank you for your patience. Tell you senior friends.

  • Senior Moments for April 2021
    by Teresa Kempisty

Yay! Spring is here! The daffodils blooming outside the Thurmont Senior Center front door are proof and it’s only March 15! We are forecasted to get a wintry mix tonight, but no worries, it will be gone the next day! (I hope).

Congratulations to Betty Renner who won the St. Patrick’s Day Free Raffle. A big thank you to Kathy Delauter , Pam Robbins and Carol Long for making this basket possible. The next basket will be for Easter. Maybe you will be the lucky winner!

Our next Roy Rogers Drive Thru Fundraiser night is Thurs. April 8 from 5 to 8p.m. just mention the Thurmont Senior Center when you order at the Drive Thru window and we will receive 25% of the total sales between 5 and 8p.m. Thank you to all those that came last month!

I want to announce some exciting news. Our new website made possible through a grant from the Community Foundation of Frederick County (CFFC) is up and running. We are still adding information and tweaking it, but please check it out. So a big thank you to CFFC for their generosity. Thank you so much to the staff of EPlus, but especially Maxine Troxell for her patience and expertise, in producing a wonderful website and thanks to our volunteer grants coordinator, Kim Clever for applying. To access the website go to thurmontseniorcenter.org

With Governor Hogan’s recent announcement where he dropped some of the restrictions, he did not open the Senior Centers yet. I know some of you thought that we could open, but it was only the ”medical adult day care centers” that opened. My guess is as more and more seniors are vaccinated, and the new case numbers come down we will be directed to open, so hang in there!

I am going to repeat the COVID19 Vaccine info. again in case some of you didn’t see it last month. To get your COVID19 vaccinations you can go online or call a phone number if you don’t go online. The phone number for the Frederick County, MD Health Dept. Vaccination Line is 301-600-7900 and you can make an appt. with them for your first shot. They will give you a time and location and after your first shot they will give you an appt. for the 2nd shot. If you go online you can go to www.health.frederickcountymd.gov and click on Vaccination Clinic and you fill out an interest form and then they call you to make your appt. If you have no way of getting to Frederick for your vaccine appt., call the center at 301-271-7911 and a volunteer can take you. You can also ask your local pharmacy if they will eventually be giving the vaccine, but that may be a long time in coming or not happen at all. Also I have learned that the hospital is giving vaccines by appointment at the old State Farm Building near Worman’s Mill and WalMart off Monocacy Blvd. Call 240-215-6310 Frederick Health Medical Group Primary Care and follow the prompts to make an appt. Again if you need a ride to the vaccine appointment, call the Sr. Center at 301-271-7911.

Take care and have a Happy Easter!
