• The Center is now open.  Check out our daily lunch menus and our activities.  Masks are now required for everyone coming into the Thurmont Senior Center until further notice due to the rise in Delta variant cases in Frederick County.  Zumba Gold classes on Fridays and Exercise with Alice on Tuesdays have been postponed until further notice while everyone is masked.  We thank you for your patience. Tell you senior friends.

  • Hello Everyone, I hope this month finds you all well.  Hopefully February will be a calm month after some crazy happenings in January.  I am still coming into the center at least twice a week and getting messages and emails at home too, so if you need to talk to me, leave a message at the center phone, 301-271-7911 and I will call you back.

A big thank you goes out to all the local businesses who donated items or gift cards for our Christmas door prize raffle and to John Dowling for collecting the items and to Carol Long for creating the baskets and putting all the items together.  Congratulations to all the 52 winners!

There are 2 locations in Frederick right now that the health department is giving vaccines but you have to register for them first by either filling out an interest form online which they will call you to make an appointment or by calling them by phone if you don’t have computer access.  In other words you have to make an appt. there are no walkins. The website for the health dept. is health.frederickcountymd.gov and then click on COVID19 Vaccination Clinic information. The phone number is 301-600-7900 & in Spanish 301-600-7905.

Also the Weis Pharmacy and the Med One Pharmacy both in Thurmont expect to be giving COVID vaccinations as well.  I am not sure about CVS.  My suggestion would be to check with these local pharmacies to see when they will have the vaccine and how they will administer it, whether you have to have an appt. or walk-in.

The Giant Food Store at 1700 Kingfisher Dr. across Rt. 26 from Walmart in Frederick is supposed to start taking appts.  Their phone number is 301-815-2201.

As far as free tax preparation this year I was told by the VITA Office (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) to have people call 211 which is the Maryland Relay phone line.  They can tell you where to call for an appt. however at this time there is only one location at a community center in Frederick and it doesn’t look like there will be any other locations this year due to COVID19.

Our fundraiser night at Roy Rogers this month is Thursday, February 11, 2021 at the drive-thru only between 5:00 and 8:00p.m.  Please mention the Thurmont Senior Center and we will receive 25% of the total sales.  Thanking you so much in advance.

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone and sending everyone air hugs!  Here are some Valentine’s Day quotes for you to enjoy:  “All you need is love, but a little chocolate now and then doesn’t hurt” by Charles M. Schulz.   “You can always gain by giving love” by Reese Witherspoon.  “Let all that you do be done in love” 1Corinthians 16:14.  “Love is the master key that opens the gates of happiness” by Oliver Wendell Holmes and “This year’s Valentine’s Day I will enjoy long, romantic walks to the fridge” author unknown.
