• The Center is now open.  Check out our daily lunch menus and our activities.  Masks are now required for everyone coming into the Thurmont Senior Center until further notice due to the rise in Delta variant cases in Frederick County.  Zumba Gold classes on Fridays and Exercise with Alice on Tuesdays have been postponed until further notice while everyone is masked.  We thank you for your patience. Tell you senior friends.

Hello everyone! Happy May Day! That is not a holiday you hear about very often these days, but I have wonderful memories of celebrating it with my Grandma Radcliffe.  Fortunately I inherited her “green thumb” and it’s that time of year to plant flowers already!

Have you had your vaccine yet?  If you need help, call the center at 301-271-7911 and leave a message if I don’t answer and I will do my best to help you.

I want to thank Mayor Kinnaird and the Commissioners of Thurmont for their generous donation of $23,000.00 on April 6, 2021.  Their support is phenomenal and we greatly appreciate their help, and even more so during this pandemic.

Congratulations to Sandy Powell who won the Easter Basket in the free drawing.  I am so hoppy for you!  Ha!Ha!  In case you are wondering how the drawing is done, Carol took all the names from the sign-in sheet from last year Jan. to March 13, 2020 plus all the volunteers and put each one on a ticket and she stirs them up real good, then I close my eyes, stir it up again and pick one.  Maybe you will be lucky next time.

And thanks again to the Birthday Quackers, they are doing an outstanding job of bringing birthday joy to the seniors.  If you wish to join the center, please call 301-271-7911—it’s free or look us up on line at thurmontseniorcenter.org. We are also on facebook.

Don’t forget fundraiser night at the Thurmont Roy Rogers, Thurs. May 13, 5:00-8:00p.m. at the drive through only, mention the Thurmont Senior Center, please.  Thanks to all who came last month.

If any of you seniors need some free work done around your house that you can’t do like painting, minor porch/step repair, basic home repairs, weatherization, wheelchair ramps, etc. call the center at 301-271-2711, I know of a youth group led by adults who are looking for projects June 28-July 1, 2021, it’s free.

In closing, I want to remember and honor those that served our country and gave the ultimate sacrifice.  We will forever be grateful.
