• The Center is now open.  Check out our daily lunch menus and our activities.  Masks are now required for everyone coming into the Thurmont Senior Center until further notice due to the rise in Delta variant cases in Frederick County.  Zumba Gold classes on Fridays and Exercise with Alice on Tuesdays have been postponed until further notice while everyone is masked.  We thank you for your patience. Tell you senior friends.

HI FRIENDS!  Can you believe the first day of Fall is just around the corner on Sept. 22nd.  We had a very busy first week back.  Things have slowed down and unfortunately we have had to go to everyone wearing masks due to Frederick County being in the high range for the deviant Delta virus.  We appreciate your cooperation.

Because of the mask wearing our Zumba Gold and Exercise with Alice classes have been postponed until further notice.  The Thursday exercise class to a video tape has continued.

We will let you know when we can have those classes again.

Just a reminder if you like Bingo, we have 3 Bingo games in Sept. on Wed. Sept. 1, Wed. Sept. 15 and Wed. Sept. 29 all at 1:00, $5.00 for a 3 pack of 20 games and $1.00 per sheet for the last game a winner-take-all coverall. The last Bingo on Sept. 29 we will donate the proceeds to an area nonprofit of our choice and this time it will be the Thurmont Skate Park.

The Pauline’s Pals Craft Monthly Group is meeting the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 1:00.  Please sign up at the center by September 14 so they can get supplies for the Sept. 21 class.

The knitting/crocheting group is only meeting once a month starting in Sept. on the first Tuesday of the month which is Tues. Sept. 7.  If anyone has unused baby or regular yarn (no wool please) that they would like to donate, please call the us at 301-271-7911.  The baby hats that they make are sent to the Frederick Hospital for newborns.  If you need help with knitting and/or crocheting, bring it in and the group might be able to help.

On Thurs. Sept. 9 at 11:00 to 11:45 Doug Propheter of Catoctin Advisors, LLC is giving a talk about his new consulting service focusing on seniors to help administer estates where there is no family or when the family doesn’t have the time or skills to do it successfully.  He also helps seniors get their estates prepared getting paperwork in order, an inventory of property and accounts or help needed when a senior is newly alone and uncertain how to budget or pay bills.

September 9 at 12:30 is also the September Monthly Birthday party.  Come for the talk and stay for lunch and cake & ice cream.  Lunch is $6.00 and you need to call ahead the day before to 301-271-7911.

BUNKO was supposed to return on the 2nd Monday of each month starting in Sept., but it has to be postponed until October when we will reevaluate the Delta Deviant virus situation.  It was to be at 1:00 and costs $5.00 and please still sign up at the center or call the center at 301-271-7911.  This is a fast moving dice game that produces lots of laughter and squeals and you win prizes.  What’s not to like?

FARKLE is a new dice game to the center that will be at 1:00 on the 4th Monday of each month that was also was supposed to start in Sept. but it too is postponed until October when we will reevaluate.  Please still sign up at the center or call to 301-271-7911.  The cost is $5.00 and you also win prizes.

For all the other events, please see the Calendar of Events in the back of this issue, TV Channel 99, the local Thurmont radio station, the sign out front or by calling the center at 301-271-7911. You can check the schedule & menu on our website thurmontseniorcenter.org, or stop by for a copy.

Two big changes to our Roy Rogers fundraiser you can now order inside or drive thru and mention the Thurmont Senior Center AND THE BAKE SALE IS BACK.  There will be no preorders though, it will be first come first served.  The time is 5-8p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 9 (always the 2nd Thursday of the month).

We look forward to seeing everyone.  If you do not have a way to the center, call me at 301-271-7911 and I can have a volunteer pick you up.  Don’t forget we serve lunch from Mountaingate Restaurant at 12:00 for $6.00.  Call ahead 24 hrs. before to the senior center to order.

    Happy Fall Y’all!
